Shamanism in China : bibliographyCitation:
The first problem that one encounters in studying shamanism is one of definition and terminology, since this largely determines the inclusion or exclusion of literature and topics. I prefer to take a broad approach, that includes the self-flagellating tang-ki of Southern China, possession cults (in which a being descends into a person, speaking through his or her mouth or by means of a writing apparatus) and spirit travel cults.http://website.leidenuniv.nl/~haarbjter/shamanism.htm more Language: eng English
Encyclopedia Mythica : Chinese MythologyCitation:
The Encyclopedia Mythica is an online encyclopedia on mythology, folklore, and legends. It currently contains over 7,000 entries on gods and goddesses, heroes, legendary creatures and beings from all over the world.
The names of deities and places in the Chinese mythology area are transcribed according to the pinyin system of romanization. This system was officially adopted by the People's Republic of China in 1979.
The names according to the previously standard Wade-Giles system, which is still widely employed, are provided in each article.http://www.pantheon.org/areas/mythology/asia/chinese/ more Language: eng English
於竹大日如来縁起絵巻 = Otake Dainich-nyorai engi emaki (History of the Otake Buddha)Citation:
The Otake Dainichi-nyorai engi emaki is painted on three scrolls and in the possession of Kotakuji-Shozenin, the headquarters and training center of the Haguro Shugendo sect. This emaki explains the origin of the Otake Dainichi-do, a sanctuary within the temple's compound enshrining Otake Dainichi Buddha. The scrolls depict the legend of the woman Otake, who is considered by Haguro Shugendo to be an incarnation of Dainichi Buddha. This database, with digitized pictures of the emaki and Otake related resources, was created with the full support of Shozenin.http://www.nichibun.ac.jp/graphicversion/dbase/nyorai.html more Language: jpn Japanese
