Chine, l'Empire du trait = China, empire of the brush strokeDescription:
This website is the online part of the 2004 exhibition at the French National Library on Chinese calligraphy. It comprises texts and illustrations from the printed catalog with a number of additional material, i.e. video sequences on the Dunhuang manuscripts and a multipart interview with Fan Zheng. The excellent objects of the Oriental Manuscripts department, where also the Pelliot collection belongs to, form the core of the impressive show. Quite unfortunately, the English pages only cover the very short captions of the "en images" part (access: http://expositions.bnf.fr/chine/expo_us
); all other information is French only. As navigating the complex site may lead to some confusion, the sitemap - hidden at the lower left corner of some pages - can be very helpful.http://expositions.bnf.fr/chine/ more Language: eng English, fre French
International Dunhuang Project = 國際敦煌項目Description:
AS WWW VL Monitor supplied note: "The database [launched 14 Oct 98 - ed.] is recreating in virtual form the contents of a Buddhist library cave discovered in 1900 near the Silk Road oasis town of Dunhuang on the edge of the Gobi Desert. [...] The International Dunhuang Project (IDP) was established in early 1994 to foster collaboration between holders, conservators and researchers of material from Dunhuang. With the launch of this web database, the Project's work becomes accessible world-wide for the first time. The database is both catalogue and image bank, with details of over 20,000 manuscripts in Chinese, Tibetan and other Central Asian languages, and over 1,000 high-quality colour images. It also contains indexes, bibliographies and site details for many of the manuscripts. [...T]he database is interactive, allowing scholars to send their own comments and details of their own research in the field."http://idp.bl.uk more Language: chi Chinese, eng English, ger German, jpn Japanese, rus Russian
