Citation: The Larger Pure Land Sutra known in Japanese as Daimuryojukyo [Sutra of the Buddha of Eternal Life-Amitayus (Amida) Buddha] is the basic text for the Pure Land tradition and relates the myth of Amida's becoming Buddha and establishing the Pure Land. It tells the story of the Bodhisattva Dharmakara who renounced his kingdom in order to create a world where all beings could attain enlightenment. The text, like other Sutras has three basic parts, the preface, the main text, and the commissioning for propagation. In this document, we have divided the preface into one section, and the main text into two sections with the commissioning included in the second section. While the original text was in Sanskrit there were several Chinese translations. This translation is Samghavarman. In this offering it is in Japanese translation. The Chinese may be found in the Taisho Canon TT. 12. #360.
