It is controlled by the 中共上海市委宣傳部 (Propaganda Office of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee) and is the most popular newspaper in Shanghai. In recent years, it joined forces with Wenhuibao and now forms the core of the 文匯新民聯合報業集團 (Wenhui Xinmin Joined Newspaper Group).
